Meet our trainers

Our EF Course Tutors are qualified teacher trainers who also currently work as dedicated senior teachers of English at EF's International Language Schools in England and the United States. They have experience teaching students from around the world! and are very much in touch with current trends in modern classroom practice.

Annie Broadhead

Our Teacher Education and Training in Cambridge is headed by Annie Broadhead. Annie has a BA in English, French and German and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (English and Drama). She lived in France and worked in a British State school teaching English and French before going into TESOL. She has a Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign language and an M.A. in English Teaching.

In addition, Annie is a published ELT author for Penguin and Cambridge University Press- her latest publications include "Advance Your English" and "Objective CAE". Annie is also a Team Leader for the Cambridge University TESOL Speaking tests, Chair of Proficiency Listening test and she also writes for the Cambridge ESOL exams. She has worked as a teacher trainer for EF in Cambridge, Brighton, Italy, Mexico and Thailand, and for Cambridge University in many countries throughout the world.

Beata Schmid

Beata Schmid oversees all academic programs at EF International Language Schools and enjoys teaching in the teacher training programs. She has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Brown University in the USA and has been teaching foreign languages, including English, for more than 25 years. Her special areas of interest are teacher support and training, pronunciation, computer-assisted language learning and the history of language teaching and the English language, as well as dialectology.

A product of foreign exchange herself, she continues to live the experience of language teaching and immersion by hosting high school students; currently a German student lives with her family in Massachusetts.

Crispin Davies

Crispin holds a B.A. in Spanish and International Politics and the DELTA and the UCLES Advanced Diploma in Language Teaching Management. He worked from 1991 to 2002 for the Instituto Anglo Mexican de Cultura as a teacher and Academic Supervisor in various locations in Mexico with courses for all age groups, particularly Business English courses. He joined EF Cambridge in 2002 and since then has taught on ILS, AY & Brittin College courses, particularly high level exam courses, and has acted as trainer on our TTC courses.  He was Course Director for the Junior Summer Course in 2005.

Keith Lucas

Keith has a B.A. in Economics and the DELTA. He worked in International House Palma from October 2003 to June 2004, teaching adults and younger learners. He joined EF Brighton in June 2004 and has taught a range of levels and learners, particularly high-level exam classes. Keith became a Senior Teacher in May 2006 and is responsible for teacher support and development. Keith has given a number of in-house teacher development sessions for EF Brighton, as well as input on Teacher Training courses. Keith has also traveled to South America to deliver Non-Native Teacher Training courses.

Rena Bartlett

Rena has a B.A. in Russian and Soviet Area Studies, an M.A. in Russian and an M.Ed. in TESOL. She has taught at EF International School of English in Boston since 2001 and enjoys teaching English through music and various aspects of vocabulary. She has also been a teacher trainer since 2002 and has held various administrative positions including academic director. She has taught ESL and Russian at Central Connecticut State University, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Brown University, various community colleges and private language schools. 

Sonja Hirsch

Our Teacher Education and Training in Munich is conducted by Sonja Hirsch. Sonja has an M.A. in German and English and is also fluent in French and Spanish. She has travelled in many different countries and has organized language teachers’ workshops in different parts of the world. She has been teaching German as a Foreign Language to various age groups at the EF International Language School in Munich for more than 10 years. Her students enjoy her lively and colourful lessons and the variety of interesting communicative activities she brings to the classroom. A particular favourite is an animated, interactive presentation of Germany’s literary and historical background.
